The Palin pregnancy and abstinence education

Katie Primm and Mark Murray of the notoriously leftward leaning NBC are screeching about Sarah Palin's support for abstinence education....

Palin backed abstinence-only education during her 2006 gubernatorial race. In an Eagle Forum Alaska questionnaire, Palin gave this response to the following question:

Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for [sic] explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?

Palin: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

Much of the original story has now been edited since it contained many factual errors. One omission, though, remains. Palin's opinion regarding education policy is moot, if that policy was not implemented in her daughter's education. So where exactly did Bristol Palin go to school?

We find the answer in the New York Daily News...

Mark Okeson, the assistant principal at Wasilla High School, told the Chicago Tribune that Bristol started her junior year last fall, in the town where Sarah Palin grew up.

He said Bristol inexplicably transferred to an Anchorage high school midyear, leaving Levi behind.

So while Sarah Palin supported abstinence education, her daughter went to a government school. The content of the sex ed course at Wasilla and Anchorage high schools would also have a bearing on Bristol's attitude toward the sanctity of marriage. Any parent can tell you that their ability to instill value in their children is severely limited when that child spends 6 to 7 hours a day, 5 days a week under the guidance of other people.

BTW, I attempted to comment on the MSNBC article linked to above. It's been over 24 hours and my comment has yet to appear. Apparently NBC doesn't like the idea of people filling in the blanks in the propaganda pieces.

UPDATE:

Irene Jay Liu did some footwork and reports...

When asked what type of sex curriculum existed at Wasilla, Assistant Principal Mark Okeson said the school has a health curriculum that includes a sex education component. When asked whether the curriculum was abstinence-only, Okeson said, “I’m not sure…I don’t believe so. This subject has not come up for a long time. I don’t believe we have an abstinence-only course.”

He said he believe that the school strives for a sex-ed curriculum that is “middle-of-the road,” and added, “I would assume that contraception would be a part of any health curriculum.”

Expect this to be roundly ignored by the dimwits in the MSM.

It's odd that Assistant Principal Mark Okeson would say that, especially when Principal Dwight Probasco said Wasilla High School’s health curriculum pushes abstinence, and the school is barred from distributing contraception. Maybe that's why Mark Okeson is only the Assistant Principal. Expect this to be roundly ignored by dimwits like yourself.

As far as your comment is concerned, the page explicitly states:

"All comments must be approved before appearing in the thread; time and space constraints prevent all comments from appearing. We will only approve comments that are directly related to the blog, use appropriate language and are not attacking the comments of others."

What that means for the slow of wit:

"MSNBC is under no obligation to preserve the incoherent mutterings of illiterate morons. They have no problem with people disagreeing with them, but make sure you actually know what you're talking about, or your comment will not be approved."

Considering the tripe I've seen you post, it's not surprising that your comments have not been approved.

The things is, I didn't disagree, I only asked where Bristol attended school. Omitting that comment is censoring dissent, not weeding out unrelated comments.

I notice you offered no soruce to back up your claim about what the principal said.

What you seem to be missing is MSNBC isn't required to spoon feed you because you're to lazy to do your own research, and neither am I. I'd agree with "censoring laziness", but not dissent, sorry.

You noticed I didn't provide a source? Congratulations. I didn't think that one would be required, since it's so easy to look up if you bother to open a Google page. Enter "Dwight Probasco" abstinence into Google, and you'll get 110 hits (at least I did). Some of those sources that you would have at your fingertips, should you decide to research your claims instead of just believing the first right wing web site you read, would be CNSNews, ABC, IRN News, LATimes, the Boston Herald, etc. It's on their Wikipedia page for Pete's sake. My favorite includes the direct quote, "Our district's curriculum is abstinence." You'll notice that there wasn't anything in that statement even remotely close to the words "I'm not sure". Unlike Mark Okeson's statement.

The thing is Danny, I could throw links up here until I'm blue in the face, but you still won't believe me. Facts and truth don't matter to you. Bothering to try to convince you is a complete waste of my time. The truth is against you. That's enough.

That Google search returned only one page of results. All of the results that actually contained any information quoted the Boston Herald. the Boston Herald includes only a scant mention.

From the Boston Herald...

Wasilla High School’s health curriculum pushes abstinence, and the school is barred from distributing contraception, Probasco said.

No one was claiming the school distributed contraceptive. The argument about the status quo sex ed is that it offer the option (as in information) of contraceptives in such a way that pre-marital sex appears endorsed. Do they offer classes on how to safely smoke? Do they offer classes on how to safely to illicit drugs? Information regarding contraceptives is seen as tacit approval for pre-marital sex. The joke has always been that saying, "Don't have sex. Now who wants info on where they can get condoms?" Is not really abstinence education. Liberals have fought tooth and nail to make sure no true abstinence education was allowed in any government schools. The school authorities quickly found that if they had their teachers mention abstinence at least once, as part of the overall curriculum, they could then lie and claim they "pushed abstinence" when they did no such thing. The Boston Herald didn't want to find out more because they have an agenda. The truth is government schools do not push abstinence, and Bristol Palin was government schooled.

Wow, its hard to believe you can be this ignorant, not to even mention being that bad at Google searching. I guess there's no substitute for some well timed ineptitude when trying to prove your invalid point eh?

The direct quote I gave you, "Our district's curriculum is abstinence" doesn't come from the Boston Herald, it comes from the LA Times. You can just enter that right into Google complete with the quotes for the article. I suppose they have an agenda too? Of course.

Bristol Palin was government schooled? OK. Government schools do not push abstinence? False. Amazingly, blatantly false. The government offers specially funding for schools that DO push abstinence only. I can't confirm or deny that Wasilla gets this funding, but considering Probasco explicitly stated "Our district's curriculum is abstinence", I'd wager they do. Please read http://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/ssact/title05/0510.htm for more information, but I'll provide one of the requirements that page lists to gain this funding. "has as its exclusive purpose, teaching the social, psychological, and health gains to be realized by abstaining from sexual activity". Bold/Italic was mine of course. EXCLUSIVE. Abstinence ONLY. Government funding. There's a whole list of requirements there too. The second one is "teaches abstinence from sexual activity outside marriage as the expected standard for all school age children". EXPECTED STANDARD. Government funding. Abstinence ONLY. I suppose the Government has an agenda too? Of course.
